Action types

Approval / Consent action

One In this step, one or more members of the selected from a Jira group can vote to either approve or reject. When the step is Once activated, then a notification is sent to all group members will receive a notification with a ‘call for action’, asking them to take action. On the page view, the user will see accept and reject button. The decision cannot be changed. The only way to undo the decision is to ‘reset’ the ongoing approval path a user is presented with ‘accept' and 'reject' buttons.

It's important to note that once a decision is made, it remains final, and the only way to roll it back is to delete the current approval and start a new one. Every Jira page participant can start or reset the approval processOnly a user with appropriate permissions can delete or archive approval.

Notification action

All group members will be notified about current progress. They might be interested in knowing progress or resultresults, but those people have no involvement in decision-making. Possible use cases:

  • Number of votes required for the group step to pass (applied only in case of Approval or Consent action)
    The number of accepted votes that are required for the current group step to mark the step as completed successfully and move the approval process to the next step (if there is the a next step) or complete the whole approval process successfully.

  • Number of votes required for the group step to fail (applied only in case of Approval or Consent action)
    The number of rejected votes that are required to mark the current group step as failed.
    For example, if there are 2 votes required for the group step to fail, then the first ‘Reject’ action won't stop progress. Step still can be completed successfully until the second ‘Reject’ action is cast.

As the creator of the definition, you can exclude yourself from the approvers, this way other members of the team will have to participate in order for the path to complete.

This feature allows the inclusion of a specific step in the approval process if it aligns with a condition defined in a https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/jira/platform/jira-expressions/. Jira Expressions. Once selected, the step will only be added to the approval workflow solely when the condition is fulfilled.

Should the condition not be met or encounter an error, the step will not be part of the approval process. Find more regarding conditions in our documentation.
