How to Connect Approval Path for Confluence with Slack
On this page
Read more about the integration
Overview
Approval Path for Confluence can send approval notifications directly to Slack, so approvers can stay informed and act on approvals without switching tools.
With the Slack integration, approval requests can be delivered as direct messages, channel messages with approver mentions, or both. When interactive actions are enabled, approvers can approve, reject, abstain, or vote directly from Slack. If Slack delivery fails, Approval Path automatically falls back to email or Confluence comments, depending on your notification configuration, so the approval process does not stop because of a missed notification.
This page explains how to connect Slack, configure notification delivery, customize Slack messages, use interactive approval actions, monitor delivery, and troubleshoot common issues.
What you get
With Slack notifications enabled for Approval Path for Confluence, you can:
Send Confluence approval notifications via Slack and choose among direct messages, channel messages, or both

Send approval notifications to a default channel or definition-specific channel
Let approvers use interactive Approve, Reject, Abstain, or Vote buttons from Slack
Keep Slack messages updated as approval steps progress
Automatically fall back to email or Confluence comments when Slack delivery is not possible
Customize Slack message content using Slack markdown
Before you start
To use Slack notifications in Approval Path for Confluence, you need to:
Connect at least one Slack workspace
Set the Confluence notification mechanism to Slack
Configure your Slack delivery mode
Configure a default channel to send notifications to Slack
Enable interactive actions so approvers can act directly from Slack
To allow approvers to approve, reject, abstain, or vote from Slack, both of the following settings must be enabled in Settings → Notifications:
Action buttons in notifications
Actions without login
If Action buttons in notifications are disabled, Slack messages will only include a link to view the approval.
If Actions without login is disabled, the action buttons become links that open Approval Path in the browser instead of recording the decision directly from Slack.
