Permission schemes - External Share for Confluence
What are permission schemes?
Permission schemes allow you to limit or extend access of users to information and actions in Confluence. With External Share for Confluence, you can benefit from permission schemes on the space and page levels.
Not referring to the “Jira permission schemes“. External Share for confluence has a creative approach to mimic Permission schemes which is not currently available on Confluence alone.
How to apply permission schemes
As a global administrator, you can navigate to the global settings of External Share:
Click on the “Apps” dropdown menu
Select the “External Share” option
Select the “Global settings” option
Select the “Permissions” tab
Enable permission schemes
Configure to your needs
Changes are automatically saved.
We encourage you to create your whitelist groups prior to enabling the permission schemes. This way you can quickly add them as you enable permission schemes.
You may also use roles, Confluence has predefined role based groups which are available to select from.
Do I need to use permission schemes?
Permission schemes help you add permission to different operations for users. If you do not need to customize permissions, default permissions will be respected.
Default permissions
When Confluence Permission Scheme is disabled
When groups and space roles are empty, all users will have access to all operations, except the ”View all shares from space” permission.
When Confluence Permission Scheme is enabled
By default, no users have access to External Share operations. Space admin must first add permissions.
Which users are affected?
Permission schemes in the context of External Share for Confluence, targets groups and roles.
Some permissions are ever-present, while others may be customized, and some are unreachable.
