There are two ways to create an external link:

  • Select the desired page to generate the external share link and select the share type from the button

Depending on your organization role, you may access different features using the app menu.

  • Global admins - You will be redirected to the global settings.

  • Project admins - You will be redirected to project settings.

  • Basic users - You redirected to view all of your links and can create shares.

How to start

  1. Navigate to the Confluence page you want to share.

  2. Select Click External Share from the activity bar or the actions menu. icon in the top right to create a new link and view this page link.

Create External Link from the app menu

  1. On the navigation bar, go to MoreAppsExternal Share.

  2. Click Create External Share.

  3. Choose Share Type between Issue, Board, Filter, or Timeline.

  4. A configuration window with a live preview will appear.

You can select Issue, Board, Filter, or Timeline to generate an external link.

Configuration in preview

Once you click Share External Link, using any of the methods above, a preview window will open.

  • In General tab, you can also select share type that you want to share.

  • Once you’ve made your changes, click the Preview button to see the updates in real-time.

Once an external link is created, close the preview window. In the list view, you will see the created external link along with its URL. The URL can be easily copied and shared.

Share External Link via email

You can send the link directly through email by clicking the Send via Email button, which opens your default email client. Before sending, you can customize the recipients, subject line, and email content.

For External Users

To see how external share view (e.g., Board view, Filter view) appears for more than just issue sharing, visit our Screenshots page. Depending on the settings, external users may be able to edit issues, add comments or attachments, or update the issue's status. These options can be configured in Share Configuration.

Here, they can view shared content, manage watch options, and track their own activity.

By default, shared issues display the Issue Summary, Description, Status, Assignee, Reporter, and Components. You can manage the shared fields in the Project Settings.

Getting Started

On any Confluence page, click the "External Share” icon in the top right to create a new link and view this page links.

If you forget to add an option to a link, want to change the password or update the expiration date just go back and edit the link. You don't need to create a new link, the existing link can be edited and updated as many times as you need!

If you have enabled the permissions to add comments and attachments, anyone with the link can add them.
