Email step
How do external users start approval?
You can specify external users, outside your organization (without access to Jira) to participate in the approval process. We will send an email with an invitation to an external user in case of first interaction. If it’s the first interaction, an email invitation is sent to the external user, prompting them to set up an account. Once the account is made and the email address is confirmed, the user can log in to the dashboard and view a list of pending approvals. Alternatively, external users can proactively set up an account by visiting Approval Path registration.
Once an account is set up and the email address is confirmed, they can log in to the dashboard and see a list of awaiting approvals.
Each time the email step is active, an external user will receive an email notification with a link to the page where they can take action.

Approval / Consent action
This action type involves a single user decision step. When activated, the external user receives an email notification with a call for action. The message originates from no-reply@mail.approval-path.com, containing a link to a issue page with simplified Jira content with action buttons. The decision made by the external user is final and cannot be changed. Additionally, an external user cannot archive or delete the approval.
Consent is similar to Approval. Learn more about it on the FAQ page.
Requiring comment on actions
If this checkbox is selected, the approver will be required to provide a comment when approving, rejecting or abstaining an issue. This ensures that the reasons for decisions are clearly communicated, providing feedback for the assignee and keeping transparency in the approval process.
Notification action
This notifies the user about the current progress. This person is not involved in the decision-making process but may be interested in the progress or outcome.
Create step condition
This feature enables the inclusion of a specific step in the approval if it fulfils a condition defined in a Jira expression. Once selected, the step will be added to the approval workflow only when the condition is met. If the condition is not fulfilled or encounters an error, the step will not be part of the approval process. For more information on conditions, refer to our documentation.
